Explore the exciting worlds of classic and contemporary theatre in Nonsuch Studios’ Theatre Book Club. Anyone can read a play at home, but Script Reading at Nonsuch Studios brings to life the world of plays, the characters and plot, the people who wrote them and the world in which they were written. Through vibrant debate, chat and discussion we bring like-minded individuals together to explore the exciting world of classic and contemporary theatre. In each four-week term we focus on a new play, asking questions, exploring themes and learning about the social and historical contexts of the drama, sparking exciting debate and discussion. What did the playwright want to express? Were they successful? What style did they use to convey their message? Do they still resonate with us today? The list is endless, but our aim remains the same, to create an open and inclusive space to read a play and voice our thoughts. You’ll get the chance to read plays, test out scenes and discuss the action in friendly weekly sessions that will chart theatre through the ages, featuring the classic plays you know and the exciting ones you might not!

Home Rangers Summer 2022

Home Rangers is a creative drama session tailored for the Home Educated Community Participants will engage in a wide range of skills and theatre approaches such as mime, puppetry and acting to camera. Working within a safe environment, the group will feel supported in developing themselves as creatives as well as individuals. Exploring creativity through discovering and making theatre is the perfect way for young people to begin to develop skills that will see them excel in later life. Not only will they gain confidence in expressing themselves but they’ll also become leaders, creators and imaginative team players. Who is Home Rangers for? These sessions are designed for home educated children aged 6-11yrs. Dates & Times Classes run weekly on Fridays from 10.00AM – 12.00PM.

Nonsuch Young Company is Nottingham’s newest Youth Theatre for creatives aged 6-11 from Nonsuch Studios. Nonsuch Young Company (NYC) is an exciting new youth theatre from Nottingham’s fastest-growing creative venue & theatre: Nonsuch Studios. Each week, Nonsuch Young Company will have fun trying out a broad range of high-energy drama, dance, musical theatre, singing, improv and acting exercises that are both fun and challenging. NYC sessions are all about creating together, building confidence, developing skills and having fun. All our session leaders are professionally trained and have worked within Youth Arts and the industry for many years and they can’t wait to welcome you to Nonsuch Young Company! Each group will work towards a public sharing on Saturday 9th July, along with our Home Rangers group. This will be a relaxed event and a chance for all Nonsuch Studios’ young performers to showcase their work for friends and family.

“No one puts baby in the corner” except at Nonsuch Studios' Baby Discos where babies and their families can come together for a colourful, sensory and creative boogie. Bring on the glow sticks, wiggles and party rings! With an assortment of tunes ranging from baby bops to the disco classics, it’s time to break out those dance moves and join us for a morning of disco dancing and funky fun made for babies and their adults. Performance warning: At baby discos we play the music a littler quieter for younger ears but you may wish to bring extra ear protection for the little party animals

Acting Workshop

Like youth theatre, but for adults! Flex your acting muscles, develop techniques and stay ticking over. Acting Workshop is suitable for beginners and those with stage experience who are looking to stretch themselves further. The sessions are open to anyone over the age of 18 and group sizes are limited to 12 so that everyone gets the attention they need and the support to develop at their own pace. Exploring a range of different topics week by week, we will introduce you to a range of practitioners, styles, techniques, and exercises in which to explore and create. Our aim is to develop your talent by providing you with further utensils to expand your actor’s toolbox and develop your personal style of performance. We will make sure we’re still getting physical, getting up out of our chairs and adding some movement. We’ll be sure to include some more light-hearted acting exercises to spread a little bit of laughter, whilst still keeping a sense of real acting intent that can add fuel into the rest of our work. Curiosity and creativity are the two buzz words we’d like to keep throughout every session during this latest digital offering and we would love to see you there.

Join us for the very first of Nonsuch’s monthly Open Mic Nights! Music, poetry, performances – all are welcome. Come along and share your talents or enjoy a brilliant mix of entertainment with friends. Our Open Mic Nights are held on one of the last Thursdays of every month. Performance slots are 10 minutes long and will be assigned on a first come first served basis on the night. There are two ticket options, one for if you think you might perform and one for if you just want to watch, but don't worry, you can absolutely change your mind, these are just so we've got an idea about numbers!

Pol-spiracy: A Sharing and Discussion

It is a quirky, messy deconstruction of the Polish Catholic Church and a male-dominated government, stealing the agency over women and queer people’s bodies. IN THE WAYS OF THE ANCIENTS SHE FOUND HOPE FOR THE FUTURE On the east coast of New Zealand, The Whangara people believe their presence there dates back a thousand years or more to a single ancestor, Paikea, who escaped death when his canoe capsized by riding to shore on the back of a whale. From then on, Whangara chiefs, always the first-born, always male, have been considered Paikea's direct descendants. Pai, an 11 year old girl in a patriarchal New Zealand tribe, believes she is destined to be the new chief. However her Grandfather Koro is bound by tradition to pick a male leader. Tech for Teens

Are you interested in learning more about all things technical theatre? Want to know how to operate your own lights and sound? In this one-day-intensive workshop, you'll learn the essentials of teching your very own theatre production. You'll learn to setup, maintain and dismantle audio equipment such as microphones and speakers. You'll learn to operate lighting software and sound and mixing boards to set you up with valuable tools in the events industry. What did the playwright want to express? Were they successful? What style did they use to convey their message? Do they still resonate with us today? The list is endless, but our aim remains the same, to create an open and inclusive space to read a play and voice our thoughts. You’ll get the chance to read plays, test out scenes and discuss the action in friendly weekly sessions that will chart theatre through the ages, featuring the classic plays you know and the exciting ones you might not!

Tech for Teens

Are you interested in learning more about all things technical theatre? Want to know how to operate your own lights and sound? In this one-day-intensive workshop, you'll learn the essentials of teching your very own theatre production. You'll learn to setup, maintain and dismantle audio equipment such as microphones and speakers. You'll learn to operate lighting software and sound and mixing boards to set you up with valuable tools in the events industry. Times: 1.30-2.30pm Introduction to Lighting 2.30-3.00pm BREAK 3.00-4.00pm Introduction to Sound Age Range: Saturday 9th July: 16-19 years Saturday 16th July 12-15 years Price: £10 for each 60 min session £18 per full day £15 for students

Fable Finders: Summer Holiday Club Week 1 (Ages 6-11)

Nonsuch Studios are back with another new week of fun and games this Summer for those aged 6-11! From the 8th-12th or the 15th-19th August, 9.30-3pm, we will explore drama & storytelling through a wide range of games and activities such as arts and crafts, sports and parlour games and much more. Please note: spaces are limited and advanced booking is essential. This scheme is suitable for all abilities and is tailored for ages 6-11.
